Prozac, Generic fluoxetine hydrochloride, more popularly known by its brand name Prozac, is a popular FDA-approved antidepressant medication which works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals in the brain such as serotonin.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger in the brain that many scientists believe plays a big part in the development and severity of depression. Prozac is widely prescribed for the treatment of depression (including pediatric depression), obsessive-compulsive disorder (in both adult and pediatric populations), bulimia nervosa, panic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), hypochondriasis and body dysmorphic disorder.
